For this project I have decided to look draw up my inspiration of vast plains and landscapes from Egypt. Focusing on indigenous groups that incorporate these plains with the lifestyle.

Tribes that live in these environments and also travel amongst these landscapes, Berbers and nomads in particular.

I had never heard of the Sami Nomads, it was difficult to research, but what I found out was really interesting. They are reindeer herders, also the name 'Sami' means mend. When they kill a reindeer everything is used; their antlers are made into buttons, their skins are used in clothing.

My trip to Cuenca has come to an end, after a hectic attempt to get home with the problem of the Icelandic Volcanoe I finally made it home. I gained some inspiration for the new Sway project. I took these photos to our way to a music festival in Castilla a la Mancha and they look so dream like and fluffy!

Since I was stuck in Espana for an extra week due to the Icelandic Ash Cloud, me and Alex decided to head to the coast, Valencia. A really beautiful town, beautiful architecture and Moorish influences. And yes... that is a coloured bird in the photo above!

In April I visited the old and hilly town of Cuenca, east of Madrid. A very quiet town, where the internet cafe was a 40 minute walk away. My friend Alex who did her foundation at Camberwell with me was studying in Spain for a term. She's a photographer, so in an attempt to learn something I was happy snappy on my holiday to gain approval from a pro!

All I can say was, Paris was a hit! After enduring the cold windy, snowy, weather I sold two design to spanish brand Desigual, Barcelona. The design pictured above were not sold. I looking forward to hopefully seeing them in store!

I have chosen M.I.A; Born in Sri Lanka, brought up in London, she is now currently living and work in Brooklyn New York.

I chose her for her eclectic mix for clothing she sometimes take an urban twist on traditionalAfrican and Indian Fabrics.

Here's my final work from the Neighbourhood Colour Project, all in all I feel it was a successful project. The last couple weeks were hectic and stressful, but worth it I am pretty pleased with the final outcome. I learnt many techniques, process and became confident with photoshop. Roll on Indigo!

2-D to 3-D: Make it Menswear

I think that Menswear would be most suitable for my collection.

Menswear is about shape and structure, with the patterns in my collection they are made up of block shapes and lines that would suit the male body (hopefully).

I've never really had a look at menswear before, but what is currently out there is exciting! Especially McQueen and Etro Digital Print is making an appearance with the boys.

DIGITAL COLLECTION

For the Interim Review we have to have a collection of designs inspired by a colour palette from the area of London that inspired us.

To create this collection I fragmented images of the doors from Notting Hill. I really creating the patterns in this collection so far. I used both Illustrator and Photoshop, which has made me more confident with these packages.

The colours created by the overlay ads adds another dimension to print.

My focus for this project has been Notting Hill. I have been playing about with blocks of colour, its a theme on the runway especially with Marni. Their collection from last year the colour palette was inspired by Rothko.

Another artist who uses knit to great effect is Cilla Ramnek. Having studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts & Design in Stockholm, she has shown enormous versatility by designing fabrics for IKEA, producing a couple of craft books, creating artworks for public spaces and exhibiting in Stockholm and Tokyo.

Ramnek has an eclectic but solid approach. Her work is primarily concerned with texture, such as the wonderful beaded glass panels (pictured top), which look like woven fabrics.

Having looked at blocks of colour which was predominately 2-D, I came across the work of Sandra Blacklund was an escape. The knitwear is so sculptural. Amazing designers are coming out of Sweden, especially the exhibition at the Fashion + Textiles Museum on Swedish Fashion really showed off the Swedish Talent. Clean cut silhouettes and fresh shapes for the body.

My initial chosen areas were Soho and Greenwich, at first I my strongest photos were of coloured doors. In search of more colourful doors and blocks of colour, I went to Notting Hill, bursting with colour doors, houses and shop fronts.

Here are some images of my summer project, yep I based it on Peru. A pretty memorable summer. My tutor said that my work from it seemed very personal and not similar to work that she's seen previously.

I've kept it as a piece of memorabilia of the places I visited and the native people I met. The textiles were stunning, amazing weave and knitted textiles.

We visited Isla de Taquille in Lake Titicaca the highest lake in the world. On the island it only the men that knit! To woo a girl they would fill a knitted hat with water and it would usually take 1o minutes! So if would take longer than 10 mins, they would have pulled!

I went back to Camberwell College of Arts to speak to prospective fashion students. It made me realise how much I enjoyed my Foundation. It was a year to completely do what you wanted to! Taking projects into the direction that you wanted and just being experimental.

Although I did my foundation two years ago, I regard it my favourite year in education. I loved my foundation at Camberwell, it really was a refreshing year and helped me make the decision of what I would like to do study at BA. Producing a portfolio of work was key, however I learnt how vital understanding process and research is in design.

Here are some images my Final Major Project. It was based on a a narrative from Christain Lacroix. I wanted to create an interior using printed and knitted textiles. I made a fabric tea set exploring scale and process.

Well I am currently in Aguas Calientes, Cusco. Most people usually stay here and the following morning take the bus up to see the beautiful site off Machu Picchu.
Me, Tat´s, Natasha and another lady in the group Sibill. Have decided we´ll walk up to Machu Pichuu at 3.30 a.m because we want to walk up Wayna Pichuu which is the iconic mountain that you usually see in all the pictures. Hopefully it will be okay! well.... so far the tour has been exciting, apoligies for not updating you guys earlier. From Lima we went to Paracas where there is the Poor Man´s Galapogas, then we went sand boarding (my 2nd time) in Huachina. We made our way further south to the stunning city of Arequipa, the second biggest city in Peru. It was conquered by the spanish, it doesn´t look peruvian at all, we felt like we had stepped into spain! Very beautiful colonial buildings, lots of plazas and very sweet cobbled street. The one place where we ate a kebab! We then headed to the Colca Canyon which is the deepest Canyon in the world. We went condor spotting, we went on a couple of hikes too, preparing for Machu Picchu! We stayed in a really beutiful place in the middle of the Canyon, a couple people in the group have suffered a bit from altitude sickness because we´ve been as high up as 5000meters. We then went to Puno which is where Lake titcaca is, part of the lake is in Bolivia. It is stunning, I can´t wait to show you all the photos: Lake titicaca is the biggest and highest lake in the world. In one of the island we did a Home Stay, it was really nice, we walked to the top of the island and watched the sunset, the family cooked us dinner. Then later there was a party for all the tourist in thir Municipalidad, our families dressed us up in traditional dress and danced with us, a very fun night. The following day we went to Islas de Uro, where the people live on floating islands made from the reeds that grow in the lake, everything is made from reeds, the island, houses, boats! Then we went back to main land, Puno which has been one of the coldest places so far. One of the guys in the group it was his 21st Birthday on the last night in Puno so we went out for drinks to celebrate. The next day was a 6 hour bus ride to Cusco, i think a couple of people were´nt feel to good that day from the night before. We arrived in Cusco on Wednesday, Cusco is said to have been the capital for the Incas and was conquered. Cusco is also very beautiful a lot of colonial looking buildings, narrow alley streets and cobbled roads. The main plaza has two cathedrals that have lovely archtecture. The rest of the group started the Inca trail on Thursday it takes 4 days we will be meeting them in Machu Pichuu tomorrow. On the outskirts of Cusco are many ancient ruins contructs from huge pieces of stones, however when the spanish arrived the runined the structres. They used the huge stones to help build the cathedral in the main plaza. Tomorrow its Machu Picchu, wish us buenos suerte ( good luck) for the climb!We will spend two more nights in Cusco then on Tuesday morning we´re off to the Jungle, the mighty jungle! Puerto Maldonada, we will be straying there for two night and then our flight home in on 11th Sept we´ll see you on the 12th. The next update, i´ll probably be telling you face to face with finally a good cup of tea! The time is 5.15pm i´m gonna get some pasta for dinner to help me with the hike tomorrow and get an early night, also a little boy ran in a throw some water at me, I´ll try and get him back!

Finally Weeks in Lima!

Hola All! How are you all? Apolgies for not writing earlier. I´ll give you an update on whats been happening, the time is passing so quickly my last day is next Thursday-Friday! I last wrote around the 25th July. That I had arrived back from Mancora which was lovely and hot, I then started at Tupac the Med Centre which at first was a little bit of a culture shock. It is in the same area as my school. The first day that I went to the Med Centre there was a huge queue around the corner of Mothers and babies. I helped out the nurse on my first day in the enfermaria they were giving influenza vacs. Since then I´ve been working in the Med Centre till 10th August, it been really good the people who work there have been lovely and so friendly to me and Catherine. I helped out the Nutrionist Betty who is terribly sweet she´s been lovely to the volunteers. The other week a man came in with his leg all bandaged up the nurse asked me to helped... I just hand her the soap and gauza. His leg was completley red and yellow I asked him what happened. He said that he is a Mechanic and he was cleaning with Gasolina and his friend was soildering nearby and his leg got caught on fire. He was in a lot of pain when the nurse was cleaning his leg and he also has asthma. Another terrible sight was a girl that had been carried in only six years old, her Aunt´s dog bit her face she had to have stitches on her top lip. It was terrible she was so scared and in so much pain. Also recently this week I was with Betty and a young girl came to see the Nutrionist because she was under weight and was 2 months pregnant, she was 14 years old. She was saying that she feels nausea and doesn´t like her mother´s cooking. Her Mum was with her too, we asked about the father who was 24 years old, the girl explained that when she has the baby it will be a ´present´ for her Mum. In other news week beginning 30th July it was only really me and Catherine the other volunteers had headed up to Quito which they said was actually colder considering its closer to the Equator so they headed back to Mancora. During that week there the 2 Aussie girls left. There was a Artisian Handicraft Exhibition which was pretty good to see all the textiles, the people selling had come from all over Peru. It was good to see how much some of the style differed from one region to another. I didn´t really buy too much because it will be cheaper when were on the tour.
I also went for my salsa classes and the ladies from the class said we should go out to a Salsa club. it was me and 4 other ladies who were 50+ yrs, but they were a good laugh, we went to a really good Salsa Club in Miraflores and at about 1.00 a live band came on stage from Cuba they were amazing! It was a little hard to keep up with the pros at Salsa but good fun. During the week I stayed in Lima we had about 3 days of work for the Feliz Dias de Patrias their Independence Holiday. I went out with my host sister Leslie, Martin her boyfriend, Pedro the cousin and their friends. It was fun pretty busy in the clubs they were attempting to show me how to dance Meringue! Its a little difficult, but fun. During that week I also went out with Catherine host family. We went to Parque de las Leyendes which is a Zoo. It was pretty big and I saw Jaguars, quite a few different types of Monkies! On the Thursday it was my host sister, Leslie´s 20th Birthday. We decided to have a last minute Surprise Party! Catherine came along but didn´t stay too long. Her friends turned up a little late unfortunately it was only 4 of us there for the surprise. But it was good fun we had dinner and Pisco Sours! We stayed up till pretty late about 3.00 trying to salsa and meringue! The following day which was a Friday me and Catherine decided to go Huancayo which is East of Lima over the Andes. We left Lima at 11.30 at night and arrived about 6.30 in the morning. It was absolutely freezing when we arrived probably below 10 degrees. We went for a walk to the supermarket in search of breakfast but McDonalds was opened at 11.00. We were also out of breath a little due to the altitude we had some tablets to take which helped a little. We spoke with the owner of the Hostel - Lucho who advised us to visit Hualhuas where they make and sell textiles. It was 40 mins out of Huancayo surrounded by mountains which was stunning to see.
We went to one shop to have a look at the textiles, I had a go on their loom which was fun! We bought some fizzy drinks for the people young boy that was staying there and his friends. His Mum invited us to return in the night for a party because it was her 30th birthday. So we returned in the night for the party. I was so much fun we bought a cake for his Mum - Yanina, we had a really fun night talking and dancing. They also made us dinner for us which was a beef steak, Huanciania Sauce and potatoes it was really tasty. They even invited us to stay the night however we had a reservation in our hostel. Last weekend Catherine went to Cusco and Machu Piccuu, she got pretty ill when she came back to Lima, I went to pick her up for the airport, she was short of breath, tight in the chest and feverish. We went to a Med Centre and they said it was due to the change in tenperature. She was just a little worried about being ill and not being allowed to fly to Brazil on Saturday. Now she´s more or less a little better. Last week friday I went to a BBQ at the other volunteer´s house Yosuke, theres other foreigners living there working in Lima for 6 months. They decided to have a bbq to get some really food into them, since they´ve had food poisioning! they made a bbq from tiles, a plant pot holder and the side of a bird cage! It was the best meat i´ve eaten so far in peru though. Sunday´s is the only day we all eat lunch together, it was really lovely I got them a cake to say thankyou we then had cake and again for dinner too! Since then I have been working at the Med Centre and The school. This last week of mine in Lima has been pretty sad. Last week I gave out all the presents to the kids in my class. Brian and Vivien they were very grateful for the donation they kids were so happy, I bought some things party food and I through them a party. Then on Monday the teacher then organised a party for me which was very lovely and also very sad I did cry a bit. She then took me out for Ceviche which is raw fish told me that many of the kids do have domestic problem in the home, the families are separated, one or two mums died giving birth. She said that she was very grateful for the past week. I went back one last time to say bye to the kids, and one boy Angelito said he wanted to say speech for me, it was terribly sweet *sniff sniff*. Also yesterday was the last at the Med Centre, saying Adios was again very sad I´ve had a really good time in Lima, with my host family, the volunteer friends that I´ve made and also with my work collegues. I will miss Lima terriblly! We had a little reunion yesterday with every from the Med Centre which was lovely, they said some nice words and told us to come back. We bought them a cake which was very delicious. Betty the nutrionist then envited us to her place for a drink and lunch; she´s been very welcoming to me and catherine, she took to some other districts in Lima, which would usually be not safe to visit without a an actual Peruvian and we went to her cousin´s cafe for lunch which was so tasty! I also had my last salsa class which is always fun, but was pretty sad, I cried again, my dance partner Miguel gave me a bottle of Pisco which was nice. So, today i my last second to last day in Lima, I have to start packing for tomorrow for when joanna and tat´s arrive! They are very excited! Today we´re going out for one last time my family, catheriné´s and yosuke´s and also with peruvians we´ve met. It will be sad to leave, but I guess I leaving with great memories and a wonderful experience... I´ll try and update you when we´re travelling around. Lots of Lima Love!

Sunning myself in Mancora!!!

Buenos tardes! I have been off school since last Wednesday! They have called a holiday for public schools in Lima, to not have school until the 3rd August allowing the children to get rid of any flu or cold they have. So me and Catherine booked our flight to Mancora a beach resort in the north of Peru.
We flew to Tumbes on Thursday night and from Tumbes it was a 2 hr taxi ride to Mancora. When we came out of the airport there we loads of bats just flying about! Pretty scary! The beach was stunning the only problem was that it sea was a little cold. We stayed in a kinda house mainly made from bamboo and palm leaves, it was really nice and about 100 meters away from the main strip. On Friday we spent the day on the beach and in the pool, we had a look around the town and market.
Four other volunteers that we know from Lima also went to Mancora for the weekend, they stayed in a house in Piura a 15mins drive in a CocoTaxi. They were also sharing the house with some Swiz and French people, who they usually live with in they Host family in Lima. The house was nice, it was high up on top of a hill and had a 180 degree view of the beach. We bought some supplies and made Mexican! Fajitas! We went into a butchers, which looked pretty dodge, he had those huge freezers that you would expect a body in! He had a badly blood stained apron too, he pulled out a chicken for us, dropped in on the floor and then put it back in the freezer! A woman came in asked for a chicken and he gave that to her! We opted for lomo, which is best cut of beef and I haven't been ill! At night we walked down to the beach and we saw loads of stars, more that I saw in the Andes and every 15 mins we saw a shooting star! I saw about 3 but feel asleep. When we trying to get back to the house we realised that someone had looked the gate to the beach. The only way to get through, was to squeeze through the bars made from wood. One guy was a bit chubby, he squeezed through the side and got stuck, stepped on a water pipe from the hotel broke it and sewage came out! The rest of us ran away because of the smell, they next day 2 of the hotels had problems with water! I ate some good sea food whilst in Mancora, a tuna steak, fresh prawn, passion fruit juice, coconuts! On Saturday Catherine enquired about kite surfing lessons. Then on Sunday we went with the kite surf instructors and students to a remote 40 mins drive south of Mancora. It was a very sweet fishing village, also a house that Hemingway stayed in, they pointed out a man that knew Hemingway, whether its true or not?¿? The beach was very deserted and there were no house around, it kinda looked a like Mars! One of the instructors showed me how to fly one of the baby kites which was about 4-5 meters. In Mancora there are alot of foreigners that visit, love it and then settle for good. One of the guides works in Mancora during winter then in Ecuador and Columbia for the rest of the season. Another is splitting his time between Mancora and the Turks and Cacaos Islands in the Caribbean. Me and Catherine caught our flight back on Monday night. The other 4 volunteers from were meant to catch their flight on Sunday night, they blew off their flight back to Lima and got a bus up to Ecuador!! Its only about 15 hours to Quito. The weather in Mancora was lush about 30ish degrees! We arrived back to Lima and it was rainy it looked like London. The following morning Ben had a puddle in his room and we don´t have a roof over the stairs and landing so that got wet, rather strange! Yesterday there was another bus strike, which was frustrating because this week I was going to work in the Med Centre. Yesterday was Ben´s last day in Lima, he´s the other volunteer that was staying at my house. He left for a 20 hour bus journey to Cusco this morning. The 3 other volunteers that are in Lima at the moment are sick, food poising. So we went out with our host sister Leslie her boyfriend Martin and their friends. We then went to a Jungle bar where they give you drinks from plants in the jungle, is pretty cool, i´ll have to take Joanna and Tat´s when they arrive.
So, today I went to the Med Centre. A little over whelming at first, it about 100meters away from my school in San Juan de Miraflores. A poor district in Lima. In the morning there were lots of mums and babys, check ups and flu shots for influenza. At first I thought it would have been difficult for me to lend a had as I don´t have any know of anything medical: But I helped a nurse in the Enfermeria I measured all the babies and called out their names in the weight room, I also had to help keep them still whilst the nurse Betty gave them their injections. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, however the med centre is not in the best condition, the waste from injections isn´t disposed correctly not much ventilation, no sanitation gel. Some of the patience got frustrated having to wait for 2-3 hours for the shot for their kid, but we got through about 30 kids in 2 hours. Theres other departments in the med centre, physiology, nutrition, dentist and others I have forgotten the English name at the mo. Theres only 2 doctors, but in the morning its v.busy by midday things calm down a little. tomorrow I will take some lollipops in for the kiddies so they can have it after their injection. I have been washing my hands and I just bought a bag of oranges. This evening I think me Catherine, Cathy and Mary may got to the Fountain Park which is meant to be very pretty at night. Cathy and Mary are leaving this weekend and at Catherine´s house there is an Italian girl arriving next week maybe. I´m not sure if anyone is arriving at my house. Pisco, Paracas, Ica and Huachina Baby!

On friday night we left for Ica, me, Catherine, Cathy and Ben. We got the bus to Pisco which only took about 4 hours. Pisco wasn´t exactly how we had imagined and definatley how Lonely Planet discribes it! We got a taxi from the highway to our hostel a rather bumpy journey. Turns out Pisco was at the epicentre of the earthquake that happened in Peru two years ago. I could only describe it as looking similar to Gaza?!? It was like the ghetto! We arrived at our hostel around 8ish, the hostel was really nice more of a hotel and only 4 block from Plaza Mayor which is were there are restaurants etc. We asked the owner to order us a taxi and he said I´ll take you in my car it´ll be safer! The main square was okay, just unwanted stares the other 2 girls have blonde hair, so lots of stares, I had seafood pasta for dinner. I didn´t recognise any of the seafood thought, mainly a variety of different shellfish. On Saturday we organised to go to Islla Ballistas known as "Poor mans Galapogas". Theres a couple Islands and theres an ingraving of a candalbara on one of the islands, its about 500meters tall and 200meters wide, they think its been done my the Nazca cilviasations. Also the top of the islands are white due to the droppings of the birds, its meants to be uber great! Saw peguins, dolphine, sealiones and birds. I haven´t seen a condor yet i wanna! The islands were in Pisco, the weather is similar to Lima, no rain and grey sky. After the islands we went to Paracas natural reserve. The reserve is huge we saw flamingos! On the tour of the reserve you see different sights of the some of which have been affected by the earthquake and wildlive. We had lunch in the reserve its on the coast so fresh seafood, I had Chicharonne, which was mixed seafood in a breadcrumbs with rice and potatoes!In the afternoon we took the bus to Ica and from Ica we took a taxi to Huachina, an Oasis surrounded by huge sand dunes! We had dinner at the hostal which had a bar-restaurant in it. The following day Ben had been throwing up during the night, we think its possiblly food poising strange considering we at exactly the same meals throughout sunday. Me and the other girls went in the dune bugee sandboarding! Which was amazing! Surrounding the oasis are huge sand dunes, we drove up huge dunes! I was very scared going down the dune on the board I stopped half way and attempted to climb back up, after the first go its pretty thrilling!We were gonna arrange to go to someof the bodegas, but thought we hadn´t see much of Huachina. We spent the reset of the day walking arounds, rowing a boat in the oasis. Had lunch, i had a lovely white fish and we had the tastiest Pisco Sour! Arrived home about 9ish last, absolutley covered in sand! I went to school today and the teacher and some of the kids had surcial masks on!! turns out they thought one of the kids in the high school had normal flu. Also they are closing down the school for 2 weeks so that they kids don´t get swine flu! I won´t have school untill 3rd August its pretty frustrating because I´ve only been to school about 5 times!! we´re off till the 3rd august because from 25-27 july theres public holiday for all! So thats rolled into it aswell.My friend catherine is working at the med centre and has been told that they are planning to give a flu vac to all peruvians by the end of the month. So i´ve got free time to explore Peru, we were thinking of going to Mancora this weekend, a lush beach side resort in the north! I must seem like Im doing no work but i have the excuse of swine flu.I had a few manic moments in class today they teacher left me alone with the class and they ran riot! I turned my back to clean the board and the back row of boys just dashed out of the class, the other boys were throwing soap bars across the room! The girls giving each other tatoos with board pens! Another volunteer Praveen I haven´t meet her as shes been traveling around Cusco since I´ve arrived. She was meant to be taking her flight back to London last Thursday. But, she was in Arequipa felt a little bit sniffly they sent her to the hospital and said they think she has swine flu! She had to wait 4 days for the tests to come back and is flying home tomorrow! In other news.... I went Salsa classes!! Was super fun! Only a hand full of people, its hard but good fun! The teacher is really good too. Thats it so far, more or less. Maybe tonighta jazz bar...Will talk soon ciao ciao

Hola! Here´s an account of how Peru has been so far, happy reading!

The pace of life here is very slow, which takes a bit of getting used to, in comparison to the chaotic pace of london . On the weekend everyone wakes up late chills out and we have a big lunch all together. The way they have their meals is different here too. Breakfast a smooth-juice a bap with ham and cheese. Lunch at about 2-3 which is the main meal of the day, each meal I´ve had has consisted of carbs with rice potatoes and chicken. then in the night at about 9.00 a nother small piece of bread! so not too much and we don't snack during the day. On Friday we went to the discoteca with our host cousin Chino and host sister Sharella it was fun! Everyone can dance amazingly similar to Cuba, they tried to teach me meringue, its one of the fastest dances! I tried my first Pisco Sour, the typical drink of Peru. Pisco the national alcohol which is grape brandy, lime juice, and a raw egg white! all in a blender and drink! Its not too aesthetically pleasing with its frothy egg at the top, but quite nice.

On Saturday we went to the Centre of Lima and downtown Lima with a guide from iTej we visited the museum of archealogico which explained all about the different civilisations of Peru, Nazca, Lima and Inca. We then visited the Ministrio de San Francisco. It was very beautiful it has many paintings from colonial time an ancient library, the ministry housed the Franciscan Monks. We also visited the Catacombs that are underneath the building, a little haunting to see so many bones and skulls. Unfortunately we couldn´t take photos but a lot of the building was destroyed during the earthquake a few decades ago. We all had an amazing lunch together in Tanta. Which is the restaurant from the article that Manuel gave me. Its restaurant that serves typical Peruvian cuisine and shows the mix of cuisines within its food. Like African, Spanish, Chinese and the native cuisine consisting of potatoes,maize and rice. We eat potatoes every day Huycanyo Salsa is quite tasty made from yellow pepper. I´ve had it for breakfast and during lunch Abuela handed me a boiled sweet potato to munch on. Last Sunday there was a street carnival near the coast in Churillos la fiesta de San Pedro y Paulo so me and two other volunteers went to see that, then we had a very big Sunday lunch soup, rice and chicken. then dessert which was more rice. Arroz con leche and a jelly with corn. Yesterday it was bank holiday Monday so pretty much the same. Near my house there is a stunning park called the Friendship Park with a steam train, a lake and boats: Went there y´day with yjeother volunteers and one of the Peruvian Buddies. In the evening we went to Miraflores the centre of town for drinks another Pisco Sour!

Today the buses are on strike and its not possible to go to school so day off! We may go to Barranco to iTej to organise our camping trip that we are going on the weekend to the Highlands outside Lima. They´ve said this is a good time to try wild trout or Guinea Pig! I think I´ll stick with the fish! We all have a Peruvian buddy each that we can contact they are mainly uni students so their English is very impressive. Tonight there are Salsa classes in my neighbourhood of Surco, I think some of us may, I do hope its not only professionals!So I think i´ll only have 2 days of school this week Wednesday and Thursday then Friday we´re going camping! which would be nice! I´ve very jealous of the weather that there is in London 30 degrees!Today we went to Larco del Mar a place with shops etc in Miraflores, I saw some blue sky finally! The temperature today was over 20 degrees, but all the family say its cold as its their winter. Lima is on a plateau so basically in the clouds the sky is just white all the time, a little like London in Autumn-winter.I hope your managing to catch some rays!

Today is Wednesday my first day at our project, our buddy takes us there, spends the day with us and helps us come back home. Its not too bad on the bus, I can only really relate them to the buses in Goa. They are a little smaller, for example when i stand up in the bus my head touches the roof! Its fine going on the bus, i meet some of the other volunteers on my way. Its in San Juan de Miraflores, on the outskirts of the city. There are two volunteers working there, from England and Australia I hadn't met them before. The other project of the the other volunteers are in the surrounding are a 2 minute walk to another school the same for the health care centre. I´m teaching 2nd grade, which is probably yr 3 kids are 7-8 yrs.The kids are very cute and terribly mischievous. I was introduced to the class lots of high pitched Buenos Dias Senorita An-JA-lii! I was only at school for 3 hrs today I drew a poster for the class. The classes aren´t made from actual concrete building but more make shift classrooms made from wood and metal. Its not in the best neighbour hood, a little similar to favelas-shanty towns. Peruvian kids have such a sweet tooth! I bought in Jelly Babies for the class and there was pin drop silence they had to say thank you to me in English and also give me a hug each! The kids are sweet and ask me lots of questions all the time.

This weekend I went camping with about 11 other volunteers. We went to the Highlands just outside Lima Matuchana, which was actually the Andes! I had an amazing time, the weather was beautiful we all got sun burnt I have a distinctively dark nose! We were dropped off by the bus and walked 5 miles to the closet town for lunch the altitude didn´t affect me too much I chewed on some Coco leaves. Where some people had guniea pig or wild trout. I settled for beef. The Guinea pig was just fried all you can see is the claw and its rather skinny. We then set up camp near a farm, and a stream. I was looking for the ´loo´ with my friend Catherine and I put my foot down and I went sliding down the side of the river bank rather scary but luckily no broken legs just a sore back! The guys attempted to start up a fire, after while it was big enough for us to start making smores! I stayed up till 2.30 to watch the moon go down, it was stunning I´ve never seen so many stars before, I also saw the Southern Cross which you can only see on the southern hempishere. The next day we saw the sun come up and we got ready to do another trek it was short but a killer. My hip was a bit achey and the Sun was so hot, but managed to slowly make it to the top to see the waterfall! On Sunday Ben the other volunteer and me cooked Sauages and Mash for the whole family which is 10 people, but they had family visiting so it was for 15! It was hectic, but they loved, Carmen the mum has taken the recipe from me. I made apple crumble and we also had Pimms! On the volunteering side of things, I´ve only been in 3 days so far, due to bank holidays and bus strikes. Yesterday school was closed because it was ´Happy Teachers Day´tomorrow and Thursday there may not be any school a little frustrating because you don´t know for definate until the day of the strike. My teacher said that it isn´t necassary to try and go in tomorrow in a taxi because sometimes ppl close the roads, or theres riots, petrol bombs, so I´ll have a day off and visit the Da Vinci Museum. Today I went to school, had lunch, tried to organise a weekend in Ica with other volunteers. This evening I´m going to salsa classes! Its a rather long email apologies for that, next time i´ll write weekily! Also a shame about the floods in london!

The Rough Guide theory task:

For this task the area of London that I have been allocated to explore is Soho, Covent Garden and China Town. Each of these areas differ greatly from one another, both aesthetically and culturally.

The area that I liked most was Soho, especially Berwick Street visiting the fabric shops was inspirational and showed the variety of ways in which textiles can be designed. From delicate bead work, to laser cut applique.

An item that I bought whist exploring my area was a vintage t-shirt with sailing boats on it. What drew me to it was the simple illustration and the old fashioned quality of the t-shirt. I would have felt differently about it if i were to have bought it from a high street shop. For the reason that if i were to have bought it from a shop like Topshop i wouldn't have felt as though i wasn't buying a unique item.

An object that i am exploring in my Rough Guide is tea. This idea was stimulated after visiting China Town, I interested in the packaging that i saw of Chinese Herbal Tea with the an image of a Chinese lady on the side in a bikini. I thought that the image was different in comparison with the more subtly designed Chinese Herbal Tea packaging.
